With a slew of independent films already under her belt, Melonie Diaz is emerging as one of Hollywood’s rising stars. She appeared in four films that premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival: Michel Gondry’s highly-anticipated Be Kind Rewind, alongside Jack Black, Mos Def, Danny Glover and Mia Farrow; Andrew Fleming’s Hamlet 2, with Catherine Keener, Elisabeth Shue and Steve Coogan; Assassination of a High School Principal, co-starring Bruce Willis; and American Son, opposite Nick Cannon. Diaz’s vast filmography also includes performances in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, for which she received a 2007 Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress; Raising Victor Vargas, which was nominated for five 2004 Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Feature; Catherine Hardwick’s Lords of Dogtown; Tom DiCillo’s Double Whammy; Jamie Babbit’s Itty Bitty Titty Committee; the Jennifer Lopez-produced Feel the Noise; and Jess Manafort’s Beautiful Ordinary.
